Module 5: Yin Yoga to Assist
Yin Yoga training for more asana variations and the art of hands-on assist
Why more asana variations?
In foundation courses, there's hardly any time to delve deeper into individual bone structure, varying myofascial tissue characteristics, etc., and to learn even more variations. However, this is necessary in the long run because bodies are different. What works for me won't necessarily work for others. The more asana variations we as teachers can offer, the more practitioners we can reach. Advanced asana variations don't necessarily mean feeling more intensity or stretching. For some, it means finding the right stimulation in the first place. Many turn their backs on Yin Yoga because they feel hardly anything in the poses. This can be countered with knowledge of asana variations.
In the asana variations, asanas that weren't included in Module 1 Foundations are demonstrated, as well as variations of common Yin Yoga asanas (also from Module 1) using props. Props such as straps, blocks, and the wall are used more frequently in this module.
Benefits of Yin Yoga and Hands-on Assists?
Touch is one of the most important tools, not only in Yin Yoga or yoga in general. The valuable effects of touch, or rather its absence, have been highlighted in numerous studies, particularly during the pandemic. Touch in Yin Yoga helps practitioners become more attuned to their sensations and to let go. It's not about shaping the body into a certain form, as this isn't a goal in Yin Yoga anyway. It's about supporting the internal processes initiated in Yin Yoga through gentle and conscious touch.
The techniques used are derived from bodywork, especially Thai Yoga. Instead of forcing into a position, gentle pressure movements, long, sweeping motions, small rocking movements, and targeted pressure points are employed. This is possible during Yin Yoga asanas as well as in rebound poses.

Teacher of Yin Yoga with advanced Variations and Hands-on Assists Training
Nikoleta enjoyed two Yin Yoga sessions during her first Hatha/Vinyasa Yoga training. Even then, it was clear that her future practice would likely involve less Vinyasa and more Yin.
Since then, she has completed two Yin Yoga teacher trainings with international instructors, both of whom trained under the godfather of Yin Yoga, Paul Grilley.
Nikolete has accumulated approximately 800 hours of Yin Yoga training, combined with meditation, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and acupressure. For years, she has taught hundreds of Yin Yoga classes, primarily in Vienna. She varies her Yin Yoga classes, focusing on different aspects such as physical demands, mental focus, energy pathways, meditation, spirituality, and more.
