Module 6: Yin for the Nervous System
Yin Yoga Teacher Training with a Focus on the Nervous System, Trauma-Sensitive Yoga and Somatic Tools
Who is this training for?
This module is open to participants who have completed the following modules:
Module 1: Yin Yoga Foundations
Module 4: Yin Yoga and Meditation
and at least one of the following:
Module 2: TCM / Meridians and/or Module 3: TCM / Acupressure Pointsor similar trainings with other schools / teachers.
This immersion builds directly on these foundations. Core competencies in teaching Yin Yoga, common challenges in Yin Yoga practice, asana variations, individual skeletal differences, fascia anatomy, as well as introductory knowledge of meditation, Yoga Nidra, and TCM are required.
Yin Yoga classes in this training will integrate and build upon these aspects. New content focuses on the nervous system, polyvagal theory, trauma, and trauma-sensitive teaching, and how all of these directly influence Yin Yoga practice. In addition, participants will learn and apply somatic tools (somatic tools) from nervous system-based practices to create safer, more responsive, and more inclusive Yin Yoga classes.
Retreat-Only Participation
Priority is given to participants of the full training program. A limited number of retreat-only spots are available.
These include:
Two daily yoga sessions
Accommodation with breakfast and one additional meal
Retreat-only participants do not attend the theoretical training content. This option allows for more space for rest, integration, and personal practice.
Why Focus on the Nervous System and Trauma Sensitivity
Yin Yoga is not inherently relaxing for everyone.
Not every nervous system can simply let go, close the eyes, and be still without reacting. Certain Yin Yoga cues do not resonate equally with all students, and some Yin Yoga postures can trigger trauma-related responses.
When this happens, the nervous system may shift into fight, flight, or freeze states. Without trauma awareness and nervous system literacy, these responses often go unnoticed or misunderstood.
In this immersion, participants learn:
why Yin Yoga can be triggering,
how trauma and stress responses manifest in the nervous system,
how to recognize these signs in students and in themselves,
and how to offer nervous system-friendly alternatives, options, and language.
The training emphasizes trauma-sensitive teaching, clear communication, and the practical application of somatic tools to support safety, choice, and self-regulation.
Yin Yoga as a Somatic Practice
Yin Yoga is inherently a somatic practice, as it is not about placing the body into a shape and holding it solely for a stretch. In traditional Yin Yoga as taught by Paul Grilley, the focus is already on a somatic approach: awareness, individual adaptation, functional variation, and embodied feedback.
This capacity to offer variations and to support somatic awareness is the foundation of nervous system-friendly and trauma-sensitive Yin Yoga. It is a prerequisite for participating in this immersion.
Building on this base, the training deepens the practice through:
nervous system education,
trauma-informed understanding,
and the integration of practical somatic tools that enhance safety, regulation, and embodied presence.

you have training in meditation / Yoga Nidra and TCM

It is for you if you want to understand why Yin Yoga can be triggering, how trauma and nervous system responses show up, and how to work with them skillfully.
It is for you if you want to teach inclusive, nervous system-friendly Yin Yoga classes that prioritize safety, choice, and self-regulation.
And it is for you if you are a dedicated Yin Yoga practitioner with the above training background—even if you do not teach—and wish to deepen your own Yin and Yang practice in the context of nervous system education, trauma awareness, and somatic tools.

Part of the 100H/200H Yin Yoga Teacher Training in Vienna - more information in the Yin Yoga Teacher Training Overview.
Participation in the Immersion/Training is only possible with relevant prior training experience (see above).
Participation in the Retreat (morning and evening yoga) requires prior experience in dynamic flows and Yin Yoga.

Teacher ofYin Yoga and the Nervous System Teacher Training
Nikoleta enjoyed two Yin Yoga sessions during her first Hatha/Vinyasa Yoga training. Even then, it was clear that her future practice would likely involve less Vinyasa and more Yin.
Since then, she has completed two Yin Yoga teacher trainings with international instructors, both of whom trained under the godfather of Yin Yoga, Paul Grilley.
Nikolete has accumulated approximately 800 hours of Yin Yoga training, combined with meditation, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and acupressure. For years, she has taught hundreds of Yin Yoga classes, primarily in Vienna. She varies her Yin Yoga classes, focusing on different aspects such as physical demands, mental focus, energy pathways, meditation, spirituality, and more.
For over 15 years, Elisabeth has been working with the human body and its health – from both Western and Eastern perspectives. Her knowledge ranges from physiotherapy and osteopathy to yoga, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Thai massage.
In her work, she combines medical expertise with a holistic approach to address body, mind, and spirit equally.
In this Yin and Nervous System training, Elisabeth will share her knowledge of the anatomy of the nervous system, as well as touch and breathwork, and will teach one Dynamic Flow and one Yin Yoga class.
