Module 6: Yin for the Nervous System

Yin Yoga training with a focus on the nervous system, trauma-sensitive yoga and somatic tools

Who is this training for?

ONLY for participants who have already completed the following modules:

Module 1 Yin Yoga Foundations, Module 4 Yin Yoga and Meditation, and at least one of the following two: Module 2 TCM/Meridians and/or Module 3 TCM/Acupressure Points. This immersion builds upon this foundational knowledge. Basic aspects and questions regarding teaching Yin Yoga, Yin Yoga challenges, asana variations, individual bone structure and fascia knowledge, as well as an introduction to meditation and Yoga Nidra and aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), are prerequisites. Yin Yoga classes will take these aspects into account and build upon them. New knowledge about the nervous system and polyvagal theory, and what this means for the Yin Yoga practice, will be added, as well as aspects of trauma-sensitive teaching in Yin Yoga and somatic tools from nervous system practice. Training and yoga class language is German.

Retreat Only Participation

Priority is given to those enrolled in the training program, but a limited number of retreat-only spots are also available. This includes two yoga sessions daily, accommodation with breakfast and a second meal, but no participation in the content-based training. However, you will have more free time.

Why Focus on the Nervous System and Trauma Sensitivity

Not everyone feels drawn to Yin Yoga. It's not automatically relaxing for everyone, and simply letting go, closing the eyes, and doing nothing isn't safe either for some. Instructions from Yin Yoga teachers don't resonate with everyone in the same way. Some Yin Yoga poses can trigger various reactions. This can put someone in fight-or-flight or freeze mode. In this immersion training, participants learn why this happens, how to recognize these signals, and how to offer alternatives or guide the class using language that is sensitive to the nervous system.

Yin Yoga, by its very nature, is a somatic practice, as it's not about simply getting the body into a position and holding it there because of a stretch. Traditional Yin Yoga, as taught by Paul Grilley, already emphasizes a somatic approach and empowers teachers and students to find and offer variations that work for all participants. This is the first step toward making a practice safe, efficient, and functional. This is a prerequisite for participation in the immersion, so that we can build on it and put the cherry on top.

Teacher ofYin Yoga and the Nervous System Teacher Training

Yogalehrerin Nikoleta Nikisianli liegt im Gras und lächelt in die Kamera

Nikoleta enjoyed two Yin Yoga sessions during her first Hatha/Vinyasa Yoga training. Even then, it was clear that her future practice would likely involve less Vinyasa and more Yin.

Since then, she has completed two Yin Yoga teacher trainings with international instructors, both of whom trained under the godfather of Yin Yoga, Paul Grilley.

Nikolete has accumulated approximately 800 hours of Yin Yoga training, combined with meditation, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and acupressure. For years, she has taught hundreds of Yin Yoga classes, primarily in Vienna. She varies her Yin Yoga classes, focusing on different aspects such as physical demands, mental focus, energy pathways, meditation, spirituality, and more.
